Liz Cotton -  Rainbow Turtle

I have been instrumental in establishing Rainbow Turtle as both a  Fair Trade shop, an  educational and campaigning organisation and a resource base for other organisations. The name Rainbow Turtle has become synonymous with Fairtrade in our region and we have been a driving force to gain Fairtrade status for Paisley and, soon, for Renfrewshire. We have a very good relationship with the Renfrewshire council.

Rainbow Turtle set up a second shop in Linlithgow at the request of the Fairtrade steering group there . Although this is now run independently from us we established connections with many schools and other organisations in the area and we maintain close links with the shop.

I am keen on collaboration and am working closely with John Riches and the Coach House to set up a West of Scotland Fair Trade Hub in Paisley. This just comprises the two organisations at present but will be established in such a way that other Fair Trade groups could ‘buy in’ to it and it would be a centre from which Fair Trade could be expanded in the region and beyond.

From my visits to areas of the Developing World I have set up projects to provide work through importing goods. This is on a small scale but gives me an insight into the practical problems of supporting producers and first hand knowledge of the problems they face.

Therefore I believe I have a good working  and practical knowledge of the small business sector, a wide range of contacts, a solid reputation in the Fairtrade sector, a great deal of energy, drive and enthusiasm and a desire to work together with others to achieve the wider aim of alleviating poverty in the Developing World through Fairtrade and the achievement of a meaningful Fairtrade Nation status for Scotland.

Rachel Farey - One World Shop

I am currently the Business Manager of the One World Shop Ltd, a fair trade retail company and registered charity which was established in Scotland in 1983. We have two shops, one in Edinburgh, one in Glasgow. Our aim is to promote fair trade through retailing and through educational activities.   I have been involved in fair trade for 24 years and am also a trained teacher.

I am Vice Chair and founding member of the Edinburgh Fair Trade City group and helped found BAFTS, the British Association for Fair Trade Shops.

As well as managing and developing the company, I give talks and presentations on fair trade to schools and colleges, faith groups and other organisations. I also visit our fair trade producers overseas, most recently to India and Bangladesh.

Due to my current position and background in fair trade I believe that I will bring some useful skills to the Board of Trustees. During the past 6 months I have been the Line Manager for Betsy Reed, providing support and advice to her enormous workload.

Bruce Stuart - Fair Shares Trading

I have been involved in Fair Trade, as a business for a number of years . I am currently a member of the interim board of the Scottish Fair Trade Forum. I would relish the opportunity to continue with the work of this forum during the coming three years.

I am aware of the intricacies of Fair Trade from a number of perspectives; through business, as a shop(BAFTS) & wholesaler of Fair Trade products, also as a campaigner & board member of a number of Fair Trade organisations both local & national.

I believe this background gives me a thorough understanding of the Fair Trade Movement in the UK. I would ask for your continuing support with my current nomination.
